Commonwealth Games Federation

Interview with Mike Hooper from the CGF.

Interview with Richard De Groen from the CGF.

The Commonwealth is an association of independent sovereign states spread over every continent and ocean. From Africa to Asia, the Pacific shores to the Caribbean, the Commonwealth’s 2 billion people make up 30% of the world’s population and are of many faiths, races, languages, cultures and traditions.

The Commonwealth Games is a world-class sports event, held once every four years. The games comprise of the 71 member nations, from the UK, Africa to Asia, the Pacific region and the Caribbean. The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is responsible for the direction and control of the Games.

The ZEUS Team system will be installed in time for the planning and organization of the Delhi 2010 games. Four member nations will be using the system for this event – with the remaining 67 nations using ZEUS by the Glasgow 2014 games.

Prior to ZEUS, the games planning and administration was immensely complex with many systems still paper-based. There are 32 different operational areas associated with running the games from accommodation and security, trough to protocol and accreditation. Multiply these processes across 71 nations and the need for an effective centralised games administration system became clear.

Mike Hooper, the CEO of the CGF, describes his experience to date of working together with Data Torque and ZEUS:

"One of the things we looked at as the CGF is how we can assist our members and help them do their job better. As a games team management system, we felt that ZEUS was the answer. "

"The process used to be paper-based with some on-line systems. We now have a system where we can enter the data once and have it communicate and integrate with the organising nations systems. With ZEUS our members can not only manage their team entries and competitions but also use the web to promote the CGA and their activities."

"The reality is that what were looking to do, is to provide a proficient games and team management system for our members. We looked at the market place and deciding that ZEUS could provide a long-term solution for all our members... Our relationship with ZEUS and Data Torque is evolving very positively."
